Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste An international, multidisciplinary center of excellence specialized in studying materials using light generated by two sources: Elettra , a third-generation synchrotron, and FERMI , a next-generation free-electron laser. This light makes it possible to reveal the details of atomic and molecular structures and behaviors, enhancing our understanding of their characteristics and providing solutions to a wide variety of problems—ranging from electronics to environmental sciences, from pharmacology to diagnostics, from engineering to nanotechnologies, and even the preservation of cultural heritage. Both Elettra and FERMI are included in the 2021–2027National Research Infrastructures Plan, adopted by Ministerial Decree No. 1082 on September 10, 2021, and are among the few research infrastructures in the EU category (IR-EU). With a total of 34 beamlines and experimental stations used annually by thousands of scientists from over 50 countries, they are a leading international research facility at the forefront of materials and biomaterials science.
